A Year in Pictures - Part 4

September - December 2011

Ah the last of the updates...almost caught up now.
The fall was VERY busy. We needed our occupancy permit for insurance purposes, and well, to be able to live in the house legally before it got too cold. So we worked day in and day out.

On with the show..

Shower getting prepped for tiling.

I designed the closets and Dad assembled them with me :)

We had to put railings to pass the Occupancy inspection..

Temporary pantry - definitely not as cool as the one I designed...

Trim work around the doors - designed and built by Francis

The fireplace mantle went up...

Ceiling and window trim in the kitchen...

My beautiifffuuulll log holder from Lee Valley.
You can see the finished porch and our view, which I adore.

The powder room has been, and continues to be a storage
area and all in all awkward place to pee during the construction.

View of the screened in porch from the mudroom

Nearly finished laundry room.

Another view of the kitchen

More work on the mantle..it was a heck of a job

Mudroom...it still looks like that because we have not tiled it yet.

Drywalled garage

Stone was installed outside...

Our wood pile all ready for the winter

The finished walk-in closet.

Prepping the windows for staining...

This is the upstairs bathroom. it needs more colour. we are working on it.

The bath ready to be tiled.
Since we still don't have a shower yet, it's been a lifesaver.

Funny ceiling angle in the bathroom

Loft dormer

Bedroom dormer. I am really happy we decided to go with a wood ceiling.

Halloween!

Fireplace phase 1

Beams being assembled

View from the loft towards the living room

Francis took this picture. I guess he was proud of his hole...haha

Ah staining...we are both pros now.

The ensuite bathroom.

Ensuite bathroom
...you know I never though I'd be posting pictures of toilets on the internet but here it is.

Shower floor and liner thing-ma-jig

Completed fireplace

View from the dining room

Staircase that leads to the music room (on the left is the mudroom)

Francis had to stain the big beam in place...boy did he have fun!

His super safe set-up

Where he would fall should the thing collapse...it's the stairway to the basement

Laundry room yet again with the wide angle so you see it a bit better

Screened-in porch.
Man, I love that BBQ.

Back deck complete with wood pile and planter with spices

The reality behind all those improvements...we have to continuously move our stuff around.
For a long time, our dining  and living room were one.

That scaffolding stayed up for months much to my dismay.
They we used to install the beams and cathedral trim.
We opened up a bottle of wine when they came down.

Chinook intermission.

He's such a good boy. <3

Ah....I will never get sick of that view.

I took this picture in case he got hurt so I could say I told you so.
Kidding. He was really happy to be up there...the little monkey.

Pantry door. Stained by moi.

Hmm...this looks a lot like the other one but oh well, master bathroom again!

Cathedral beams going up.

The Dads: a great tag team.

Installed beams.
Shortly after, I was tasked with finding fixtures.

There they are!

When the scaffolding was taken down (woooooohooo), the next thing
was to finish the pine flooring.

I keep taking pictures of the kitchen because its one of the only finished room in the house..haha.

The fan is up!

Pine floors complete in dining room

O Christmas tree ohhhhh Christmas tree!!!

Back of the house with complete stone chimney

The rest of the pictures is of the trails in the back of the house

The little creek that runs in the back of the property.

Thanks for watching folks. We are now pretty much all caught up and any future posts will hopefully be like reading late-breaking news. :)

Since we ended up doing pretty much everything ourselves, we learned a lot. So if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask and we'll do our best to answer.

Oh and I wanted to give thanks. To the Dads, who are always there when we need them....to the Moms, who spoil us with food and love...to Bruno, the acadian wonder..who shows up every time we need him and asks only for cookies in return. Thanks to everyone else who dropped by to lend us a hand, even if for just one afternoon. We would have gone insane if it wasn't for you guys.

Also, a special thanks to Francis, who has to deal with the pressure associated with a demanding girlfriend in an already stressful situation. Sigh. I know it hasn't been easy for you. I appreciate all the hard work you put in.

Cheers folks....and until next time, keep that stick on the ice!
